Horseback riding has always been a love of mine. I began riding at the age of five just for pleasure. As I grew older I wanted to compete in sports but because of my vision and hearing disability I could not do this. My dad and I went to cutting horse competitions to watch. It looked like something I would be interested in doing. I took lessons for several months and then I began to try my hand at competitions. I loved it from the beginning. It is a real thrill to show your horse in competitions. I really like it when my horse takes a deep cut to block that calf.
I have two horses that I am presently showing--Kings Court Man and Nancy Lena. I enjoy showing both of these horses. I have two other horses at my barn, Zanton's Little Jewel and my colt, Doc Lena Sug (we call him Little Buddy). I enjoy working with and taking care of the horses in my barn.
This whole cutting horse experience has been wonderful. I can not think of anything I would rather do than ride horses and compete in cutting horse competitions. In my book Born to Ride with a Will to Win, you can read all about how I overcame my disabilities to compete in cutting horse competition.
